this blog is anti-racist.
as a white person, it is my job to learn as much about racism as i can, unlearn my own racism, and support BIPOC people.
this is a list of things i will be doing to commit to anti-racism in my personal and business life. i understand there is much more i need to learn, and i understand i will make mistakes along the way. i commit to learning, growing, and taking feedback.
personal:
i commit 30 minutes a day to anti-racism work. this includes reading books, watching documentaries, taking courses, and having conversations with POC. at the moment this is focused on Black people’s experiences, but I will be learning more about the Native American, Latinx, Native Hawaiian, Aboriginal, and other experiences of POC.
i will diversify the accounts i follow on social media. this is not to tokenize Black and other BIPOC, but to gain a larger perspective on the world. spirituality, travel and health are all subjective experiences, and if I want to understand different cultures i need to understand the experiences of non-white people. once i find an account hat i resonate with, i will engage with their content and share it.
this includes following BIPOC people from other countries. 99% of my feed is American, and since having an American passport is a privilege in itself I will seek out travelers, vegans and spiritually minded people from other countries.
i will stand up for BIPOC people in all circumstances. this includes with family, at work, in spiritual communities, etc. activism only goes as far as you are willing to get uncomfortable.
i will continue to post about racism on social media whenever i see it. i will not be a blogger that speaks up during the outcry about george flyod’s murder and never again. my personal and business social media will be place to support the voices of BIPOC people.
i will make sure that 20% of my spending is at BIPOC owned businesses. this includes restaurants, brick and mortar stores, and online purchases. i will promote Black and other BIPOC businesses that i resonate with.
i will actively seek to diversify my yoga practice. This includes finding BIPOC teachers and going to their classes, supporting inclusive yoga spaces, and paying for online classes.
i will learn more about my place as a white traveler, and become part of the solution to decolonialize travel.
business:
as my business expands and i look into hiring, i will make sure that BIPOC are an essential part of my staff.
i will look at the metrics and see who my marketing is successful with. at the moment, the most engagement i get is with white people, so will find ways to make my content safe and inclusive for everyone.
i will seek to pay BIPOC to contribute their voices to this blog, and eventually to my podcast.
i will donate 5% of my profits to BIPOC/LGBTQ+ charities.
i will speak up for Black and other POC’s rights on my business platforms, regardless of whether it costs me business. i don’t want any business from racists, bye.
