10 ways to stay healthy at home.

man, what wacky world we’re living in right now.

as of now, it looks like our normal may never be the same. that gives us an opportunity to change our programming, yay! while we may not be in an ideal situation, we can make the best of what we have.

since you don’t have the gym, healthy cafe, or weekly meditation circle to keep you healthy, there are so many ways to stay healthy at home!

  1. take an online fitness class.

chances are you are not getting nearly as much activity as you normally do. no after work yoga class, lunch walk or early morning gym session. now is the perfect opportunity to brach out and try online classes! tons of yoga teachers are doing donation based classes, and many fitness gurus are adapting their programs so they can be done online. check out your favorite fitness person to see if they have something going on.

some of my favorite youtube creators with amazing classes are yoga with adriene, madfit, and boho beautiful.

  2. prioritize healthy eating habits.

i speak from experience when i say that eating a whole can of pringles is easier than cooking a healthy meal, but i felt like garbaaaage afterwards. nutrition plays a key role in our mental and physical health (duh) so it’s in your best interest to eat as healthy as you can. i love maddie lymburner and kate flowers for healthy vegan recipes. :)

  3. meditate and connect to Source.

spiritual health is also health! how’s your relationship with the higher power(s)? whatever you believe, now is a great time to build the connection between you and your spiritual practice. if spirituality isn’t your thing, studies show that meditation can help ease anxiety and increase focus.

an easy way to start a meditation practice is to try guided meditation. there’s a to of guided meditation podcasts out there for you to pick from, but i love purely being guided meditations.

  4. drink water.

another big duh, but i’ve found it’s hard for me to remember to drink throughout the day while i’m home. normally i’m out and about, lugging my huge water bottle everywhere i go.

at home, i make sure that i drink 16 oz of warm lemon water right when i wake up to kick the day off right. i then fill up my water bottle and add some mint and lime juice to keep it fun! i try to drink two full bottles a day, as well as drink tea at night and eat lots of water filled fruit like watermelon.

  5. get 7-8 hours of sleep.

again, you already know you need to be getting enough sleep. but if you’re sleeping upwards of 10 hours a day, that can also be detrimental. using a sleep analysis app like sleep cycle can help you understand the amount and quality of your sleep.

if you find yourself taking long naps throughout the day, you need to find ways to get the prank (life force) moving through your body! do 20 minutes of power yoga, go walk outside, or take time to practice qi gong.

on the other hand, if you’re not getting enough sleep, creating a sleep hygiene routine can help you fall asleep faster. here’s an article i love from the national sleep foundation on the topic.

  6. create a stress relief routine.

managing stress is an important part of living a healthy life. unfortunately, the average personal nowadays is in a chromic state of stress. creating a routine to help you decompress not only makes you feel mentally better, but can lower blood pressure and relieve physical symptoms of stress.

everyone manages stress differently, and it’s up to you to find what makes you feel better. come people like to run and get hard workouts, some like to meditate, some spend time with family or out in nature, the possibilities are endless.

personally, my stress routine involves meditation, journaling, and a round of power yoga to get my jitters out.

  7. take time away from screens.

let’s be real, it’s almost impossible to completely get away from screens. most of us have phones, laptops, and a tv in our homes. while technology as given us the opportunity to connect to people across the globe, having that amount of information input isn’t healthy.

a good way to spend less time with your screens is to take a media day once a week. you may check your phone once every two hours, but no tv, web crawling or social media allowed. this has been hugely important to my mental health, and has helped me create a quiet space in my head for my intuition to speak. you could also try not to be on social media the first two hours of the day, and turn off technology two hours before you plan on going to bed.

  8. limit alcohol.

i don’t feel like this needs much of an explanation. alcohol is bad your you in large quantities. try to save drinks for special occasions.

  9. connect with nature.

i know for many people it isn’t safe to be outside at the moment, but connecting to mama earth is so important to our wellbeing. even if it means laying in the window to get some sun, do what you can. you could also get some house plants!

  10. practice gratitude.

gratitude is the key to overall health my dudes. we are so lucky to even be alive, let alone having the world at our fingertips and learning how to be healthy at home. practicing gratitude doesn’t have to mean long journaling practices or praying for ours on end. simply acknowledging the blessings in your life with a simple “thank you” helps you reframe your mindset into abundance.

i hope these tips helped! as always, stay safe and i love you.
